2021 Tarragona
  • Vision

At Bodega de Edgar, we’ve taken this remarkable vintage a step further. For the first time, we’ve set aside a special barrel of each wine from our Homage to Spain series and aged them for an additional six months.

The result? Even more depth, complexity, and elegance.

We’ve bottled these exceptional wines in magnums, not just for their grandeur, but to enhance their aging potential and create a truly unforgettable wine experience. The larger format allows the wine to mature more gracefully, ensuring it’s even more perfect for those future family and friend gatherings or upcoming holiday celebrations.

Each magnum is hand-labeled and individually numbered—making this a rare opportunity to own a piece of our winery’s history. Don’t miss out on the chance to bring these beautiful wines to your next special occasion.

Celebrate with family, and make memories with a bottle that promises to improve with time.

  • Vintage Notes

Overall, thanks to a relatively temperate growing season, the timing of the 2021 harvest is about a week or two later than in recent years, with most growers pulling the first of the core white wine grapes in late August. While the region has seen smoke from wildfires up north, it didn't affect the vineyards in Paso Robles.

The ongoing drought conditions are presenting growers with a double-edged sword of sorts. The good news is the dry conditions this vintage created smaller, more concentrated grapes, which is ideal for winemaking. While yields are lower, it produces more flavors, bolder colors, strong acidity, and manageable tannins. These conditions have winemakers feeling it's an epic vintage for quality.

  • Tasting Notes

From the first pour, the wine’s inviting aromas of hibiscus tea, caramel, ripe strawberries, and dark black cherry capture your attention, drawing you in with a bouquet that’s both fresh and rich.

As the wine opens up, it continues to surprise, revealing layers of exotic patchouli, zesty orange peel, and a dash of cloves—hints that evoke the bold spirit of Montsant’s unique terroir, even though this wine hails from California. On the palate, the 2021 Tarragona strikes a perfect balance between Old World style and the vibrant energy of Paso Robles. Its firm acidity and rustic tannins speak to the region’s heritage, while the Garnacha brings a refreshing, juicy lift to the wine, offering bright fruit and elegance.

The Carignan and Tempranillo components add structure and savory spice, deepening the complexity and providing a robust backbone. A splash of Graciano, co-fermented with a barrel of Garnacha, enhances the wine’s vibrant color and maintains its lively acidity, ensuring it remains fresh and exciting from start to finish.
