Vision
The Jumilla region is highly regarded for its Monastrell grape, which produces rich and juicy red wine. With 5,000 years of winemaking history backed by archeological evidence, Jumilla's signature grape produces wines that exude both strength and elegance. It's no wonder Edgar found inspiration in this region for creating La Milla.
Vintage Notes
Overall, thanks to a relatively temperate growing season, the timing of the 2021 harvest is about a week or two later than in recent years, with most growers pulling the first of the core white wine grapes in late August. While the region has seen smoke from wildfires up north, it didn't affect the vineyards in Paso Robles.
The ongoing drought conditions are presenting growers with a double-edged sword of sorts. The good news is the dry conditions this vintage created smaller, more concentrated grapes, which is ideal for winemaking. While yields are lower, it produces more flavors, bolder colors, strong acidity, and manageable tannins. These conditions have winemakers feeling it's an epic vintage for quality.
Tasting Notes
As you take in the aroma of this wine, you'll notice a blend of earthy scents like umami, followed by foraged mushrooms and a hint of smoked meat. As it develops, it reveals additional notes of plums and blueberries. The palate is equally complex, with brisk tannins that gradually unveil a delicate finish. On the tongue, it leaves a taste of cassis and black tea.
The smooth, velvety texture of this wine is so delightful, that you'll find yourself yearning for each sip.
