PASSION, PERSEVERANCE, AND THE PURSUIT OF WINEMAKING EXCELLENCE
The Story of Bodega de Edgar
From the dry, desolate hills of Michoacán to the rolling vineyards of Paso Robles, the story of Edgar Torres and Bodega de Edgar winery is one of adversity, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of a dream.
Edgar's journey began in the "tierra caliente" of central Mexico, where his father worked tirelessly as a rancher and fieldworker to make ends meet for his family. Seeking greater opportunity, Edgar's parents made the brave decision to leave everything behind and immigrate to the United States when Edgar was just a young boy.
Edgar's Winemaking Story
A Tale of Passion and Determination
Crammed into a tiny VW bus, Edgar and his family made the harrowing journey across the border, trading their desolate village for the promise of a better life in California. Settling into a small house in Cambria, the Torres family of eight lived humbly but were rich in love. Edgar learned the values of hard work, family, and never taking anything for granted.
As a young man, Edgar faced a crossroads - pursue a traditional college degree or take a risk and follow his passion into the world of wine. With just enough savings to purchase four oak barrels, Edgar took a leap of faith and never looked back. He honored his Spanish heritage by focusing on Tempranillo and other old-world varietals uniquely suited to Paso Robles' terroir.
Philosophy
Unveiling the Essence of Bodega de Edgar
At Bodega de Edgar, the winemaking philosophy is one of minimal intervention - allowing the concentrated fruit born of struggle in rocky soils to express itself naturally, without the pretense of heavy-handed techniques or manipulation. Like a child raised with love and discipline, Edgar gives his wines the structure and guidance they need to become their fullest expression.
From those first four barrels, Bodega de Edgar has grown into a thriving family business and a living testament to the power of the American Dream. The story of Edgar Torres is the story of an immigrant who came to America with nothing, pulled himself up by his bootstraps, and built something lasting through hard work, faith, and an unwavering commitment to his values and his community.
