2021 Priorato
  • Vision

At Bodega de Edgar, we’ve taken this remarkable vintage a step further. For the first time, we’ve set aside a special barrel of each wine from our Homage to Spain series and aged them for an additional six months.

The result? Even more depth, complexity, and elegance.

We’ve bottled these exceptional wines in magnums, not just for their grandeur, but to enhance their aging potential and create a truly unforgettable wine experience. The larger format allows the wine to mature more gracefully, ensuring it’s even more perfect for those future family and friend gatherings or upcoming holiday celebrations.

Each magnum is hand-labeled and individually numbered—making this a rare opportunity to own a piece of our winery’s history. Don’t miss out on the chance to bring these beautiful wines to your next special occasion.

Celebrate with family, and make memories with a bottle that promises to improve with time.

  • Vintage Notes

Overall, thanks to a relatively temperate growing season, the timing of the 2021 harvest is about a week or two later than in recent years, with most growers pulling the first of the core white wine grapes in late August. While the region has seen smoke from wildfires up north, it didn't affect the vineyards in Paso Robles.

The ongoing drought conditions are presenting growers with a double-edged sword of sorts. The good news is the dry conditions this vintage created smaller, more concentrated grapes, which is ideal for winemaking. While yields are lower, it produces more flavors, bolder colors, strong acidity, and manageable tannins. These conditions have winemakers feeling it's an epic vintage for quality.

  • Tasting Notes

Priorat, known for its steep slopes, sun-drenched vines, and dramatic landscape, produces wines that are both powerful and elegant—wines that make you sit up and take notice. It was one such bottle from the famed 2017 Clos Mogador Priorat that sparked a creative fire, leading to what can only be described as a labor of love: this wine.

Edgar, drawn in by the balance and finesse of that bottle, decided to make it his mission to capture that same harmonious essence in his own blend. So, in true winemaking fashion, the winemaking team did what any passionate team would do: they revisited their previous blends, analyzed every nuance, and—naturally—enjoyed more than a few glasses of Priorat wines to really understand the soul of the region. And after much tasting, thinking, and yes, a bit of dreaming, they found their muse—the 2017 Clos Mogador.

From that inspiration, this wine was born, boasting a vibrant, captivating nose that grabs your attention right from the first swirl. Imagine citrus zest mingling with the scent of fresh street waffles, their warm, slightly caramelized sweetness wafting through the air. It's an aromatic experience that transports you—first to the sunlit streets of Spain, and then back to the hills of Paso Robles, where the fruit was carefully cultivated with that same passion.

As you take your first sip, the wine opens up with layers of ripe black cherries and juicy raspberries, dancing in perfect balance with the wine’s bright acidity and fine-grained tannins. It’s the magic of Priorat’s varietals—Carignan and Grenache—that really shine here, adding that signature brightness to an otherwise dark and brooding wine. Together, they weave a tapestry of vibrant fruit flavors and subtle baking spices—cinnamon, a touch of clove, perhaps even a whisper of vanilla.

This vintage, the team is proud to say, is without question the best yet. Every drop of this wine reflects not just the terroir of Paso Robles, but the soul of Priorat—the balance, the elegance, the energy that makes both regions so remarkable. It’s a wine that tells a story, one of inspiration, innovation, and a commitment to perfection, from the vine to the glass. And as you savor that final sip, you’ll find yourself agreeing: this is something truly special.
